ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to determine the level of the heavy metals (Zn, Pb, Cd, Ni, Cr) pollution in the topsoil layer (0 – 20 cm) and in the duff of the woodland on the distance of 2 km from the centre of the sedimentation pond of MMW "Bolesław". For the processing of environmental monitoring data geostatistics tools were applied. A database containing the Zn, Pb, Cd, Cu, Ni, Cr content data and coordinates X and Y specifying the sample locations constituted a basis for the geostatistical analysis. The extent and degree of soil pollution in areas near of the sedimentation pond were analyzed. The basic characteristics of heavy metals in the duff and soil and the statistical analysis were performed to determine the concentration of heavy metals depending on the selected properties of duff and soil, stand characteristics and location of the sedimentation pond of MMW "Bolesław". Pearson's linear correlations were used to determine the concentration dependence between heavymetals both in duff and soil. The impact of the position research positions, which are described in the field with azimuth, was tested in the analysis. Maps of the distribution of individual heavy metal concentrations in the duff and soil were drawn with using the interpolation of measurement data. The researches and lab analyses showed a very high level of the accumulation of Zn, Pb, Cd in the duff and soil. The values of the Cu, Ni and Cr have been accumulated in the accepted norms. In the paper it is also pointed out the fundamental difference between the level of the metals accumulation on the west side of the sedimentation pond, and their accumulation on the east side.
