ABSTRACT
Social cartography is becoming more popular and GIS services are powered by impressive number of amateur cartographers. If we leave the capture of spatial data in amateur cartographers’ hands what will be the role of professional cartographers? We should consider using wizard, which will guide users step by step to force relation between new object and reference data. The role of professional cartographers should be defining this kind of rules and approve changes made by amateur users. The aim of moderating should be obtaining the valid cartographic data. While geometry edition in GIS web services we should take care of appropriate choice of valid minimum zoom and valid coordinate system. Imposed rules not only will increase propriety of applied modification, but it also will propagate correct standards. Defining the rules of edition process should be a part of cartographic methodology of creation internet GIS services. What kind of edition we could allow the users and how to moderate users’ activity in edition process? What kind of rules should be imposed? How to inform the users about changes in spatial data applied by other users? Even if above questions touch unspecified future, we can’t disregard these issues, which concern more and more users. Until a half of 2010 OpenStreetMap gathered 0.2 million of neocartographers. Social cartography and OpenSource software are potency of GIS which professional cartographers can’t disregard. This potency is distinguished by the bigger commercial players. Solving above problems is important not only for social cartography but also for commercial solutions. It was noticed by International Cartography Association, which appointed Commission on Neocartography.
