ABSTRACT
The aim of presented study was to evaluate the environmental contamination of forest in Uroczysko Grodzisko located in Bielansko-Tyniecki Landscape Park and being a result of Former Aluminium works in Skawina. near Krakow. The factory was built in the 50s of last century and functioned until 1989, emitting into the environment different types of pollution. which was a threat. In addition for the energy needs of the factory, a power plant was built next to it, providing dust and gas pollution. Skawina power plant after modernization works till today. The study concerned of the determination of contamination level of the land with the trace elements, based on their content in the upper soil layers. The concentrations of the analyzed trace elements (Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Cr, Cd) in the topsoil (0-20cm), showed a high spatial differences in the study area. Maps of the distribution of analyzed elements concentrations in the soil were drawn with using the interpolation of measurement data. The increased values of the analyzed elements were recorded for Zn, Pb, Cd and these values allowed classification of the soil into two classes: average or poorly contaminated with heavy metals. Analysis of trace elements in the litter. showed lower values than in the top level of the soil (0-20cm). This may be a result of a reduced flow of pollution in recent years to the test area. ` As a complementary element a measurement of the forest stand was also made. focused on the features related to its overall health, which showed the greatest accumulation of negative traits in the stand mainly from the SW direction.
